Ysgol Treffynnon's debate teams displayed outstanding prowess and determination in last nights interschool competition against Mold Alun School. The event, held at the Beaufort Park Hotel, witnessed the participation of three teams from Ysgol Treffynnon, showcasing their eloquence and critical thinking skills.

Intermediate Team 1 took on the challenging topic of "Should mobile phones be allowed in school?" The team, comprised of Esther Dunne (Speaker 1), Lucy Tait (Speaker 2), and Summer Jones (Chair), exhibited remarkable resilience and confidence, despite being year 7 students and competing against older students. Although they didn't secure a placement, their mature and professional representation of the school left a lasting impression.

Intermediate Team 2 engaged in a captivating debate on the relevance of fairy tales in the modern era with the topic "Should fairy tales be a thing of the past?" Tallulah Birkett served as the Chair, while Holly Rig and Cerys Daly took on the roles of Speaker 1 and Speaker 2, respectively. The team emerged victorious, earning the privilege to represent Flintshire in the upcoming round. Congratulations to the team for their well-deserved win!

Our Senior Team, consisting of Osian Davies (Chair), Vanesa Popa (Speaker 1), and Abigail Frost (Speaker 2), debated the issue of whether there should be tighter restrictions on music. Despite facing sixth formers from the opposing team, the Senior Team secured a win, showcasing their depth of knowledge and persuasive skills.

Buoyed by their success, Ysgol Treffynnon's Intermediate and Senior Team are gearing up to represent Flintshire in the district finals at Wrexham University. The entire school community is beaming with pride for these accomplished debaters.

A special mention goes out to the supportive parents who attended the event, contributing to the vibrant atmosphere. Judges praised the students for their outstanding performances, reflecting positively on Ysgol Treffynnon's commitment to nurturing articulate and critical thinkers.
